Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the excellent bilateral and friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States would be further strengthened in the future.
Abdul Momen was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, the USA on Wednesday evening.
The Foreign Minister said that a very cordial and hopeful meeting was held with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and the United States.
Abdul Momen read out a congratulatory message sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by US President Joe Biden on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Secretary of State said in his letter that the US partnership with Bangladesh would undoubtedly be even stronger in the next 50 years.
The Foreign Minister congratulated the Bangladeshis living in Florida on the occasion of the inauguration of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami. He said the Prime Minister had given permission to set up the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami to provide necessary services to Bangladeshis living in Florida at their request. The establishment of this Consulate General will further facilitate and improve the consular services of Bangladesh in the region.
The national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States were played at the beginning of the program. Later, the Foreign Minister paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu with flowers at Bangabandhu Corner at the Consulate. He later cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Consulate General.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington Shahidul Islam was present on the occasion as a special guest. Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami Iqbal Ahmed conducted the program and delivered the welcome speech. Prominent people from Miami and members of the local Bangladeshi community were present on the occasion.
