Veteran actor Annu Kapoor who is known for his peculiar style, solid acting chops, great sense of humour and a fantastic baritone voice, recently reminisced about an incident which left a scar on his mind for quite a sometime. While talking about his National School of Drama days, Annu Kapoor revealed that he was once rejected for a role in his play by Barry John despite him being the ‘top scorer’. The role eventually went to someone else and the reason ironically was Annu Kapoor’s ‘face’ as Barry John didn’t find his looks ‘fit for the role’. Describing it as a painful incident which left him mentally disturbed Annu described the whole incident, ‘There was a play happening at NSD which was being directed by Barry John. He asked everyone to perform and said that when you perform, I will evaluate and when I perform you evaluate. I ended up being the top scorer but I did not have the face for the role and it went to someone else. I was mentally disturbed by the incident and that was the first and last time I was disturbed. I was upset with this rejection. When I got the most marks why wasn’t I given the role? They were like you have the marks but not the face for the character.’ The legendary actor and TV show host then summed it up by saying, ‘Rejection hi rejection hai. Acceptance kaha hua hai. Itna sab karne ke baad rejection hi hua hai.’ Annu made his film Bollywood debut with Shyam Benegal‘s ‘Mandi’ in 1983. Since then, the National Award winning actor has been a part of several films, including ‘Jolly LLB 2’, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘7 Khoon Maaf’, ‘The Fakir Of Venice’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Darr’, ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Mr India’, ‘Ram Lakhan’, and ‘ChaalBaaz’ among many others.
