Global icon Priyanka Chopra is more than just an award-winning actor. She is a successful businesswoman, producer, former beauty queen, writer, activist, an icon for youth across the world, among other things. She is also known for her contribution to social causes. Recently, Priyanka, who is also a Global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, shared a thought-provoking reflective note on the condition of refugees in the world amid the coronavirus pandemic on World Refugee Day. The actress shared a montage of children in refugee camps and clips from her visits and talked about the dire living conditions of refugees today. She wrote, ‘Today, we honor the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. While we’re all dealing with the effects of the pandemic, the plight of refugees across the world continues. The children are affected the most, witnessing pain and suffering that no child should. The stories they told me… it shook me… so many horrifying experiences… it’s hard to understand. For their sakes, we must never forget.’ Priyanka was, however, hopeful for a better tomorrow. She continued, ‘Yet there is hope. I will never forget the amazing people I’ve met on my trips to various refugee camps, and it is because of them that my resolve to keep working by bringing attention to their situation has just grown stronger. They need our continued support for access to better healthcare, education and to build a safer future.’ Back in December 2020, Priyanka completed 20 years in the entertainment industry. Then, celebrating the milestone, Priyanka took to Instagram to express her gratitude towards UNICEF for taking her on a wonderful journey of positively impacting lives. She penned, ‘I’ve had the privilege of helping @unicef do just that as their Goodwill Ambassador. As I look back on my 20 year journey, I can truly say that this has been one of the greatest honors of my life…Giving back is no longer an option…it should be a way of life.’
