Jones’ unexpected title win would be the first of many historical events. In the light heavyweight class, he later achieved the most title defenses (23), as well as the longest winning streak (14).
Jones is already regarded by many as the best UFC fighter of all time. It would be quite difficult to disagree with them if he defeated Gane this coming Saturday and won his first heavyweight championship.
Yet even with his record-breaking talent, Jones won’t likely have an easy time defeating Gane. Before making his UFC debut in 2019, the French heavyweight turned professional in Muay Thai fighting in 2016. Since then, he has defeated all but one of his opponents, amassing an 11-1 MMA record, and he has supplanted Derrick Lewis as interim UFC Heavyweight Champion 2021.
Gane’s standup game is his strong suit, and at six feet four inches, he is taller than Jones. Yet, as seen by Gane’s lone defeat against Francis Ngannou, the Frenchman’s ground game is inferior to Jones’.
