The Anti-Corruption Wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials of its Ahmedabad zonal office in Gujarat on charges of seeking illegal gratification.

Deputy Director P K Singh and Assistant Director Bhuvnesh Kumar of ED’s Ahmedabad zonal office were held while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a trader.

The duo allegedly demanded Rs 75 lakh and then brought the amount down to Rs 5 lakh. They were nabbed while accepting cash, said people with direct knowledge of the matter.

A case was registered by the agency on June 26 on the complaint of Paresh H Patel, Director of M/s H M Industrial Pvt Ltd.

The FIR registered by the agency alleges that on June 18 “as per the instructions of P K Singh, Deputy Director, ED the complainant along with his son attended the ED office at Ahmedabad. The complainant has alleged that he and his son were beaten up badly and abused by P K Singh and were also threatened with attachment of their properties”.

The FIR further states “Thereafter P K Singh, Deputy Director is alleged to have demanded undue advantage of Rs 75 lakhs in the presence of Bhuvnesh Kumar, Assistant Director to settle his case and also that they will not be beaten up. The complainant was asked to talk about the bribe amount in code language i.e one kilo for one lakh rupees”. ‘

It is further alleged that the Assistant Director, ED rung up the complainant on a Whatsapp call and discussed about sending the amount from through an Angadia firm to Delhi.
