Underneath its bespoke sheet metal, the vehicle shares core engineering architecture with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, tailored to Bentley standards.

High-altitude and North American road testing have validated the EV platform's robustness under varied driving conditions. Prototype testing shows promising energy efficiency, giving engineers confidence as the vehicle nears serial production. The vehicle’s long-distance capabilities position it as a true grand tourer, capable of traversing long highway stretches without requiring constant charging stops.

Official target specifications highlight an estimated driving range of 300 miles according to EPA guidelines, or up to 600 kilometers under the European WLTP testing standard. Supporting this range is an advanced high-voltage electrical architecture that enables 400 kW DC fast-charging. This high-capacity system allows owners to rapidly replenish the battery pack, making long-distance road trips convenient and stress-free.

While several contemporary electric hyper-SUVs chase extreme four-figure horsepower ratings, Bentley has chosen a more refined performance target for the Torcal. Company officials note that surpassing 1,000 horsepower was intentionally avoided to focus on smooth, usable performance.

Human Percussion Reimagines Classic V8 Acoustics

To maintain a strong emotional connection between driver and automobile, acoustic engineers dedicated significant effort to interior sound design. Rather than relying on synthetic digital hums or total silence, Bentley turned to its rich heritage. Engineers benchmarked the heavy, low-revving acoustic profiles of historic Continental and Turbo models powered by traditional 6.75-liter V8 engines to inspire the soundscape.

The method used to create this sound signature is remarkably human. Rather than digitally sampling engine notes, Bentley hired professional percussionists to play rhythm patterns following the exact firing order of a V8 engine. Because human drumming contains subtle timing variations and organic imperfections, the resulting sound avoids artificial repetition, providing a natural, rhythmic engine idle beat.

This custom audio track is subtly played through internal speakers and mapped to real-time powertrain load. External sound emissions are kept refined, avoiding overly aggressive external speakers. Inside, the audio volume swells gently during uphill climbs or hard acceleration, providing driver engagement and tactile feedback without interrupting the quiet, luxurious atmosphere expected inside a Bentley cabin.

Advanced Active Suspension and Driving Dynamics

Chassis technology plays a pivotal role in maintaining Bentley's signature ride quality. The Torcal utilizes an advanced 48-volt dual-valve active suspension system capable of real-time dampening adjustments. From a passenger perspective, the vehicle glides effortlessly over uneven asphalt, matching the serene ride comfort of the Flying Spur sedan while insulating occupants from harsh road impacts.

From behind the wheel, the vehicle offers handling characteristics closer to the Continental GT coupe. The heavy floor-mounted battery pack provides a remarkably low center of gravity, effectively counteracting the physical forces associated with a higher SUV seating position. Consequently, the chassis resists body roll around tight bends, offering precise body control and composed cornering stability.

Engineers also paid meticulous attention to the integration of regenerative braking and hydraulic stopping power.
